A stylised palm tree painted to look like neon, emerges from an ambiguous, patterned background suggestive of camouflage or a swirling sea, which could signify battles or conflict, or simply just represent the chaos of nature.

The trunk of the palm tree is rendered to suggest an electric charge, or lightning bolt, alluding to energy being transferred into the Earth. Light being photo-synthesised into life.

The painting is about re-charging, or being re-energised, which is intimated in the ‘airport novel’ sounding title. Whether it’s humans lucky enough to go on holiday and absorb the sun, or whether its nature’s own immense power for transformation and regeneration, we’re all drawn towards the light.
